Why Attendance Matters In Preschool

by Erica Gonzalez, East Escondido Center Director

Attendance is a key part of your child’s early learning journey.

Attendance is a key part of your child’s early learning journey. When a child enrolls at Children’s Paradise, we start sharing information with families on why regular attendance matters.  The U.S. Department of Education tracks attendance data and so do we!

What is chronic absenteeism?

The U.S. Department of Education tracks attendance data and defines chronic absenteeism as missing at least 10% of school days for any reason, excused or unexcused. Even just two days a month can result in chronic absence.

Why does it matter?

Learning & Growth. Children who are chronically absent between preschool and second grade are much less likely to read at grade level by third grade. Early learning builds the foundation for everything to come.

Friendships & Confidence. Regular attendance helps your child stay connected with classmates, routines, and trusted teachers—building confidence and strong relationships.

Let’s work together to set your child up for future success!

  • Get your children excited about center events so they look forward to school!
  • Look at the Lesson Plan for information on what they are learning so you can remind them they don’t want to miss out on the fun!
  • Establish routine bedtimes so they are well rested for school and learning.
  • If you’re facing challenges getting your child to school—whether it’s transportation, schedules, or other concerns—please talk to us. We’re here to help!
